How to play Padel: rules and scoring
- 4 players in pairs
- 20×10 m court
Goal: Win points, games and sets, as in tennis, to take the match.
Setup
- The court is enclosed by walls.
- A toss decides the serve and the sides.
How to play
- Serve underarm into the diagonally opposite box, bouncing the ball first and hitting it below the waist.
- After bouncing once on the other side, the ball may hit the walls and stay in play.
- You can play balls that come back off your own walls.
- Hitting the ball straight into the opponents’ wall or fence loses the point.
Scoring
- Points go 15, 30, 40 as in tennis.
- At 40-all one of the FIP’s three options is played: golden point, Star Point or classic advantage.
- Golden point: one deciding point.
- Star Point: two advantages are played, and at the third deuce one point decides.
- Six games and two clear win a set, with a tie-break at 6-all.
Winning
- The match goes to whoever wins two of three sets.
- Clubs often play a 10-point super tie-break instead of the third set.
Note
- The golden point is most common at amateur clubs.
- Since 2026, professional tournaments have used the Star Point too.
- In the app you just tap the winning pair after each point.
