How to play Tarot: rules and scoring

  • 3–5 players
  • 78 cards
  • By contract

Goal: Make the contract you take and score points.

Setup

  • A 78-card tarot deck.
  • With 3 players, 24 cards each and 6 in the dog (chien); with 4, 18 and 6; with 5, 15 and 3.

How to play

  1. One player takes a contract and plays against the others.
  2. Petite or garde: the taker takes the dog. Garde sans: it counts for the taker unseen. Garde contre: it counts for the defenders.
  3. With five, they call a king for a partner.
  4. The points needed depend on the oudlers. Round half points to whole ones for the app.
  5. Taking every trick is a chelem: 200, or 400 if announced; an announced chelem that fails costs 200.
